Insurance International Students – You Have Many Options
When in need of insurance, international students have many options. In many cases, the university they are attending has already developed a program to provide for the needs in relation to insurance international students might find themselves in need of, and there are several different types of insurance to consider.
The first thought most people have of course is auto insurance.
Generally states require all drivers to have both a valid drives license
and liability insurance. International students are no exception here.
The need for insurance for a driver is obvious since drivers must prove
financial responsibility before being allowed to control a potentially
dangerous automobile on the taxpayer supported roads and highways.
Getting into an auto crash or accident without having insurance can lead
to many financial problems that no one wants to have to deal with.
Health Insurance and the International Student
When
it comes to health insurance international students must take into
account their previous medical histories and what their needs might be
while in this country. Insurance agent and brokers who deal with a wide
range of clients are able to make recommendations to all potential
clients including international students as to the type of policy that
would work best for them. When looking at insurance international
students are just like the rest of us, they want the beset bang for the
buck. The most coverage for the least amount spent. A good insurance
agent can help them with that.
Special Needs Insurance and International Students
Special
needs insurance international students may wish to consider include
cancer policies, liability umbrella insurance policies, and renters or
homeowners insurance. Cancer policies of course cover cancer treatment.
Most international students are young enough to believe cancer isn’t a
concern. Umbrella policies are more common because they cover a wide
range of liability activities. If for instance a person is in an auto
accident and is sued for more than the amount of protection offered by
the auto insurance policy the umbrella policy kicks in. And it covers
other unforeseen potential liabilities. Home owners and renter’s
policies will cover burglary of a home, loss of personal possessions and
other things can could go wrong for a home owner or for a renter. It
can be rare for an international student to actually buy a home in the
US. Renting is much more common. Landlords will often have an insurance
agent they can refer a renter to for acquisition of a renter’s insurance
policy. Someone they have dealt with in the past and found reliable. A
student should check with a landlord first. Then, just looking online or
in the Yellow Pages can be a fast way to find a good agent.
