Magnetic field treats pain, depression, accelerates wound healing
Alternating magnetic field effectively treats pain, accelerates healing and improves the appearance of scars, it is helpful even in the treatment of depression. The creator of the therapeutic method, which has already gained recognition, is Prof. Alexander Sieroń from the Medical University of Silesia.
With two other scientists - Prof. Feliks Jaroszyk and Prof. Janusz
Paluszak from Poznań University of Medical Sciences he developed a
device for magnetic therapy and magnetic stimulation - depending on the
indications different types of induction are used. The device generates a
low frequency alternating magnetic field, which has an extraordinarily
positive impact on the body of the patient.
In headed by Prof.
Sieroń Department of Internal Medicine, Angiology and Physical Medicine,
the only facility of such a profile in Europe, operating in the
Specialist Hospital No. 2 in Bytom, the therapy has already used in
about 12 thousand patients.
The device efficacy in the treatment
of pain has been tested and proven; according to studies, it is as much
as 92 percent. The treatment increases the secretion of beta-endorphins
(so called happiness hormones) in the patient’s body, improves blood
circulation and tissue oxygenation.
The researcher pointed out
that in a large group of patients the causes of pain can not be cured.
This applies, for example, to patients with bone and joint
osteoarthritis, or suffering from post-operative adhesions. "Some
patients are prone to this, surgeries to remove adhesions just produce
more. The patient suffers severe pain" - explained Prof. Sieroń.
The
use of alternating magnetic field allows to alleviate the pain for
approximately four weeks, and the patient does not have to take
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which destroy the stomach and
liver.
Application of variable magnetic fields, due to better
tissue oxygenation and blood circulation, also accelerates healing, of
both hard and soft tissue. The use of therapy accelerates the healing of
wounds, fractures, and improves the appearance of scars.
Latest
application of alternating magnetic field, already confirmed in studies,
is the drug-resistant depression. Publication of Prof. Sieroń and the
team of Polish psychiatrists on this topic has been published recently
in the prestigious Journal of Affective Disorders. "In the
drug-resistant depression the field has a very positive effect, it
clearly reduces the suffering of patients, becoming a serious
alternative to electric shocks. The fields cause an increase in levels
of both beta-endorphins and other hormones" - said Prof. Sieroń.
Magnetic
therapy device developed by Polish scientists turned out to be a big
export hit, used in hospitals, private practices and rehabilitation
facilities almost all over the world. (PAP)
