Universities and High level arts and music education institutions (Afam) organise second and third-cycle programmes that, although included in the National Qualification Framework for higher education, do not lead to a Master ot Ph.D. qualification and, therefore, are described in this section (see below). Beside the specific second and third-cycle programmes, universities and Afam institutions may organise continuing education and training courses in a lifelong learning approach. Such courses, aimed at a scientific in-depth study in some specific subjects or at professional refreshment, generally last a few months. Qualifications required to access the courses (laurea or laurea magistrale) are established by the single institutions organising the course. Admission can be also subjected to the possession of further specific requirements.
