If you have the ability to start a degree but need to enhance your qualifications and experience,Edge Hill University’s Fastrack programme offers the perfect solution.
Over the last 17 years, the University has provided an important preparatory route into higher education for students who have been away from education for a while.
The seven-week Fastrack course, which starts on 10th June, will bring participants up-to-speed with university-level study skills and subject knowledge so that they will feel more equipped to deal with the challenges of studying for a degree. Successfully passing the programme gives guaranteed entry to a range of degrees including teacher education for the Primary, Early Years and Secondary age ranges, biology, business, computing, English, geography, history, social sciences and a range of health and social care programmes.
David Hollingsworth, currently on his first-year on a Secondary Maths teaching course, is one of the many students to benefit from Fastrack and is encouraging others that it’s never too late to study for a degree.
“It’s an excellent programme that serves a wonderful purpose,” said David. “As a student who completed the Fastrack programme in 2011/12 as a way into university I can honestly say that not only was it a great path through to higher education for me, but it was also excellent preparation. I am a mature student who decided to take a career change and move into teaching and without the Fastrack I don’t know how I would have got a place at Edge Hill.”
The University will be holding a special drop-in advice session on 23rd May where interested applicants can find out more about Fastback, funding, accommodation and student support.
Janet Fairclough, Access Programmes Manager said: “It’s fantastic to see that many students who we have helped over the years have gone on to complete their degrees and have enjoyed personal achievement and success. A lot of the people we have on the programme are mature students, who have not been in education for a while and are nervous about re-entering it again, or who lack confidence, sometimes Fastrack can be a route into a new career. The programme is a great way back into education and allows students to reach their full potential.”
For more information, call into the drop-in event on 23rd May, which is from 4pm to 8pm in the Business and Law Building, Ormskirk Campus.
